Pencil and eraser

Pencil: I'm sorry
Eraser: For what? You didn't do anything wrong.
Pencil: I'm sorry because you get hurt because of me. Whenever I made a mistake, you're always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself. You get smaller and smaller each time.
Eraser: That's true. But I don't really mind. You see, I was made to do this. I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong. Even though one day, I know I'll be gone and you'll replace me with a new one, I'm actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad.

I found this conversation between the pencil and the eraser very inspirational. Parents are like the eraser whereas their children are the pencil. They're always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. Sometimes along the way, they get hurt, and become smaller / older, and eventually pass on. Though their children will eventually find someone new (spouse), but parents are still happy with what they do for their children, and will always hate seeing their precious ones worrying, or sad.
All my life, I've been the pencil. And it pains me to see the eraser that is my parents getting smaller and smaller each day. For I know that one day, all that I'm left with would be eraser shavings and memories of what I used to have.
This is to all the parents out there.

An Open Letter to Mark Zuckerberg

Hi Mark,
What’s up, Bitch? By the way, congrats for being the youngest billionaire, being the CEO of the 3rd highest valued company in US and making over 550 million friends. Hey, wait! They also include 250 million Farmers and Mafioso, 100 million disabled-accounts and 75 million fake (includes stray dogs n pets), out of which 50 million would be from India and rest 25 million are, perhaps, our neighbor’s contribution; thanks to Orkut’s decreasing popularity.
Good that you are coming up with an innovative and state-of-the-art technology Facebook Messaging (email) system as you discovered 4 billion messages getting sent each day. (What’s up with Groups? A big fail, eh?) Now we are sure the mails are going to be blocked half-way through for your TERMS are going to be even longer! Longer than the 8189 paged Ayodhya Verdict, even a Federal Govt.’s rules and regulations. Do you also follow the terms set by you? Then why isn’t it possible to block you?
Well, it’s nice that with Facebook email, you are allowing attachments now. So guys can send their masturbating videos to ladies they sex-texted before! Me? Sorry, I’ll still stick to Gmail for that. I do not wish anyone to see me while I am shagging away to glory. I need Privacy!
And then more blockages, more profiles disabled (but not deleted), new profiles added to Facebook and Voila! Facebook’s counter shows 1 Billion profiles and soon to overtake population of China. Is this how you show the numbers to the whole world of Social Media?
Hey, I saw The Social Network. And my admiration and adulation for you knew no bounds after learning how you got this social-networking/dating site out basically! No wonder when you have disparaged your girlfriend and deceived your best friend, you will do very less to care about people’s privacy or their concerns.
Although your PRIVACY explanation is written in simple English, but your business rules are damn faulty! Do you test your privacy features at all? Automation, Manual…? Here are few nuggets and my observations on how you have been compromising your 500 mn users’ privacy:
  • PandoraYelp, and Scribd. Now you added Instant Personalization options. But hey why did you forget to notify users on homepage when you ‘checked’ Places by default for them under Account Settings> Notifications?
  • Popular Applications/ ‘Apps’ on Facebook steal/transmit personal information.
  • Your application developers sell user information to data brokers for money.
  • Users set their Photo Album privacy to Friends Only (How am I so sure? Click ‘View Photos’ -> This content is currently unavailable) but if the wall is public one gets access to the published photos and to the entire album thereafter clicking ‘Back To Album’. WTF! Don’t you see the Ugly World of Morphing out there?
  • Those whose friend requests are “Awaiting Confirmation” can still have my personal posts/photos/photo-tags reflected on their feeds! How outrageous is that?
With so much of privacy breach stories, no wonder why this Halloween people had been wearing your mask!
Now, let’s speak about the DISABLED profiles, on who violated your Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, as per you.
  • Thanks to your Share button people could share profiles they need to Report Abuse, on their walls. So, your Pinoy devotees have done the needful to my maiden & ‘Authentic’ profile.
  • Why the hell can’t you give or send warnings before you disable a profile? Your automated response after two months of my appeal says,
Isn’t the reason ridiculous, Mark? For what effing good do you have these “Looking For” options in your basic info then!!! Looks like your principle-makers do not own Facebook profiles!

  • Have you ever had a chance to see how pissed people are because you disable profiles for reasons unknown? If not, have a check at http://www.blogger.com/ who are also onTwitter and have been reaching out to victims to sign the petition against your totalitarian attitude. Also,http://www.blogger.com/. Not just a handful of them, there are millions, even bloggers atNetworkedBlogs. You could check your own Petition groups and this topic. And some ridiculous reasons as mentioned in this topic as well. Oh yes, it’s written by a lady if you only thought only “Male” profiles fell prey!
  • You don’t have a mechanism to weigh the volume of data/IP content in each profile i.e. Photos, Albums, Videos, Links, Notes, Contacts etc. before disabling a profile? Why? You have an idea how agonizing it is to lose them & what a pain it is to upload them all over again!! And friends are concerned, they think I have kicked them out from my list!
You know what man, I could go on, but I also have to mention about your ‘People You May Know’ algorithms that usually pull out fake profiles with suggestive photos, which in turn invite one’s profile to be blocked again going by your Terms! You keep changing Facebook features every morning, without informing people what’s new on the site and let them accept whatever shit you offer! Do you know the calling back of Publish Profile Picture feature on the wall has been a huge disappointment for users?
It’s an application and it would definitely have bugs. Do you just intimidate and block FRIEND REQUESTS or do you ever test your own application before letting it ‘Go-Live’? Yes, then what’s this all about? And sometimes, when you post a comment others don’t see it after sometime, makes one think they deleted it. Misunderstandings over FB now! WTF! Well, how many more times would you keep changing the useless SPAM filters for Amora/Anita/Astrology Predictions and all that shit app!
Although we’ve had a Quit Facebook Day on 31st May, 2010 fetching 37971 committed quitters, I understand it doesn’t make much difference to you, the ratio is just too less as compared to 500+ million active users, after all, right? But, keep your fingers crossed Mark, for this quitting no. would soon emulate your bragging FB figures.
You cannot do good to your users, the disabled and crippled profiles, all right, but if you could do this favor for the sake of mankind- PLEASE Unfriend Coal and keep the Planet Green and not make it Black instead. You’re CEO, Bitch! C’mon.
If you still cannot do any of these, then please change your name as suggested in the text editors.

Hard work v/s destiny

Last Weekend, I watched two beautiful movies, Pursuit of happyness and Serendipity, first one was about courage, confidence and self-belief, where later was about destiny and co-incidences.

First let’s talk about Pursuit of Happyness. A movie with very nice story, great acting and superb screen play. I must admit, I love my daddy more then ever before after watching this movie, It really shows love and attachment of father to his son. Also passion and patience of that guy towards his work. It was all about dedication, hard work, smart work, give your best whatever condition you are.

Most important thing movie shows is sense of trust between father and son. Struggles Chris do for better life of his son Christopher. After his wife left him for financial crisis, Chris have to take care of his son as single parent and without job. He tried his best efforts to make Christopher happy. He work as intern in one stock broker company. Where he work harder and smarter. As he can’t effort home, he spend a night also in bathroom of railway station, and a tear comes out of his eyes… But he get worth of his hard work. He got job in same company and in future he owned his own company in stock broker…

This is real story and guy has retired in 2006 as billionaire. This story is not about being billionaire. It’s about pursuing happiness, about enjoying feeling of be what you are, do what you can do best. It’s not about luck or destiny. It’s all about what you feel about yourself, your friends, your family…..

Now talking about other movie, Serendipity , it’s all about destiny, luck, phantom, love, romance, passion, thrill. This is all about how you meet your soulmate, how you believe in destiny and omens.  And as name suggests serendipity means a fortunate accident.

jonathan search for beautiful mysterious girl, whom he met while charismas shopping few years back. They met via accident (a fortunate accident) while shopping and try to meet again. Now to story start to meet this other person again and it goes on with very beautiful events and which make you feel from inside about joy of luck, destiny and phantom.

One of best romantic movie I ever seen, it’s all about feeling other person. Memories and crazyness of a person about his love, his life and most about person he thinks is his soulmate, true love..

Now, go and watch those movies and enjoy life….

Smit

Failure

Today I like to talk about totally opposite topic i wrote yesterday, I always think that is success everything in life? What is meaning of success if we dont know failure? Does failure give us opportunity to think again and revive our mistake? or it's just part of game?

To be failure or be looser is not end of everything but it's just pause or you can say halt in your journey towards success... One of my dearest friend Krunal Mehta always use this gujarati Provb " Mane jivan ma mali nishfalata anek tethi thayo hu safal jivan ma". This thing is really intersting because till time you didn't understand failure, you can't get success..

Now let's understanding meaning of failure: It refers as state or condition where you didn't get desirable objective.

here there are 3 most important words in this statement and that what we are going to discuss today

YOU:  most important thing is you.. yes, you have to decide that what you have done and what you get... at end of day, no one is going to discuss how things went and what happen and how it happen.. but you know it.. you faced it.. you enjoyed it.. you done it.. so you have to be accept whatever you get...

OBJECTIVE: second important thing in this statement is objective.. now being failure means you are not getting objective. but you have to decide objective.. and I strictly believe that you first not aim so high that you can't achieve it. but aim what you can get.. aim where you can reach.. aim objective which can be in ur eyesight. Make day by day objectives.. try to achieve them.

DESIRABLE: last but not least..you are failure when you didn't get desirable output.. Now if I m driving Maruti ALTO and hope to drive it 250 km/hour. then it's not possible.. so you must understand ur desirable things.. If your Desirable thing is high then make your self to that level and work real hard for them..

To fail in life is not big thing, most important thing is how you move on after that failure. Once you fail in any exam or your work or any game, you have to understand few things.

What went wrong: Now this is very crucial thing, you have to very open minded.. and ready to accept things... it's most tough when people blame you for your failure but you have to accept it and move on.

How to solve this: It's ok that you failed and that went wrong. But that's not end of world.. You have to move on...

Be patient: I write this thing also in Success...Have patient is most important thing in life.. When you are going through hell... keep going.. you will find end of it..

Dont run away: Be there, Face situation and be strong to fight back to world.

At end, I just love to quote my best buddy Mihir Bhatt, He always said " My aim in life is to get failure... If i get it then i will be successful because i got my aim and even if i don't I will be surely successful"

Smit

Success

Success is word people always want to achieve. Success is not only word. It is passion, it is life, it is god, it is everything. Success is not a thing as we go to some place and buy it.

Success is thing one get after devoted hardwork with some luck. For someone success is to just get pass in all papers and for other person success means to get minimum 92% marks. Success is all relevant to person or class. It is not all about only me. It’s about how the people around me are. When you are studying in engineering college, most of people around you are either engineers or going to be engineer so that is not amusing you but when you go out in world you are meeting people like lawyers and doctors and then you feel you are different and you always have to be..

Being successful doesn’t mean be on the top. Someone say he is successful even he is an ordinary clerk in bank and someone think he is failure even if he is C.E.O. of same bank. It all depends on your attitude and your thinking. Success is mainly what you feel for your self, not other feel for you.

Talking about success, Let’s first define word success. I think it is a level to measure how happy you are. Being successful doesn’t mean you are best in business. Being successful means always try to go one step ahead from what you are and reach to that point and enjoy that success and then again try to reach for next level. Then again reach there with hardwork and then again enjoy that success take a small break. Again start work with full passion try to go to next level.

Success can’t measure by money, properties, cars, bikes, family, degrees. But it all depend on what you think about yourself. Just enjoy what you have and try to reach next level.

Success means when you feel like heaven. You feel that “YES THIS IS IT.” When you think. Oh yes i have done it. It is when you feel happy when you feel excited, when you feel nervous, When you smile and cry both together. Success is when you want to say “OK That’s it. I have done work really hard and getting rewarded by this”. Success is when you are on your peak. Success is when everything around you is beautiful and you think life was never like that before. Success is...

Now big question is how can we achieve this success. What one should do to achieve this.. Let’s see formula to be successful. Formula to be best in life. Formula to enjoy life...

Hardwork: There is no shortcut for success. You cant go sleep and when you are wakeup you are successful. It can’t be possible. Things are possible only and only if you work hard. So never let your self down. Always try to do hard and smart work. Doing hard work doesn’t mean physically but mentally hard work.
Never compare yourself : Most important thing to be successful is never ever compare yourself to other. Because you both are different entity. You both have different paths and different goals. It is insult of your self to compare it with other.

Set Goals:  You should set goals and try to achieve that step by step. Don’t set goals that you can’t achieve. Be optimistic but try hard to achieve all the goals. Set small goals that you can achieve and then go for next level.

Patients : To have patient is one of toughest part to being successful. When after doing lot of work you didn’t get success. It really feels very frustrated. At that time temper went high and then person can’t see what’s right or wrong. Then it’s not about what you are saying it’s all about I am right. Do it on my way and that’s one of biggest things against success.

Be positive:  Try to see positive aspects of different things. Learn to get more and more good things from all incident. Try to work as hard as you are doing.

Accept your limitations:  No one is perfect in this world but one who can understand what he is best in then he can get success in life. Just accept what you can’t do and try to do what you are good at. Even in what you are good at it you can’t reach to that level. Even if you work day and night then also you can’t be as rich as bill gates. But if you create a software that is more perfect and more better then any other Microsoft software then it is more successful things.

Role Model: Now this is tricky thing as we decide to compare yourself with other is unfair to yourself but to believe in someone’s thinking is very good thing. If a civil engineer having rahul dravid as his role model then he is not going to play like him but he want same concentration and dedication towards his work as much dravid has while he is batting.

Believe in your thinking:  As I said It’s all about what you think,  you feel and believe in that. Don’t do something only because your friend or your parents or your wife is doing. Only do the things which you love, which you want to do, which you care, which you enjoy.

Love failure: Those who are never failure they cant be successful. If you will not loose you can’t gonna know what is success. When you will fail you will know what is success is and your passion and emotion will go high after that.

At end of day, things which matter you most is what you think for you, what your family members and friends are thinking about you. What you have today? Success is more important but most important thing about success is way to success. Path is more beautiful then destination. When we are seating for movie or reading book then we always know that hero will merry heroine in the end. But then also we watch it, we read it because that path is so much beautiful.
Love people around you, Enjoy everybit of life, Enjoy good bad and worst moments of your life because this is your path and there is no destination. The destination of your success is you never achieve that and when you achieve it at same point you will set next goal for your self.
Success is all about trying to put your idea, your logic, your thinking in other people’s mind. Success is all about success..

Smit

Spark

Good Morning everyone and thank you for giving me this chance to speak to you. This day is about you. You, who have come to this college, leaving the comfort of your homes (or in some cases discomfort), to become something in your life. I am sure you are excited. There are few days in human life when one is truly elated.  The first day in college is one of them.  When you were getting ready today, you felt a tingling in your stomach. What would the auditorium be like, what would the teachers be like, who are my new classmates – there is so much to be curious about. I call this excitement, the spark within you that makes you feel truly alive today. Today I am going to talk about keeping the spark shining. Or to put it another way, how to be happy most, if not all the time.
Where do these sparks start? I think we are born with them. My 3-year old twin boys have a million sparks. A little Spiderman toy can make them jump on the bed. They get thrills from creaky swings in the park. A story from daddy gets them excited. They do a daily countdown for birthday party – several months in advance – just for the day they will cut their own birthday cake.
I see students like you, and I still see some sparks. But when I see older people, the spark is difficult to find. That means as we age, the spark fades. People whose spark has faded too much are dull, dejected, aimless and bitter. Remember Kareena in the first half of Jab We Met vs the second half? That is what happens when the spark is lost.   So how to save the spark?
Imagine the spark to be a lamp’s flame. The first aspect is nurturing – to give your spark the fuel, continuously. The second is to guard against storms.
To nurture, always have goals. It is human nature to strive, improve and achieve full potential. In fact, that is success. It is what is possible for you. It isn’t any external measure – a certain cost to company pay package, a particular car or house.
Most of us are from middle class families. To us, having material landmarks is success and rightly so. When you have grown up where money constraints force everyday choices, financial freedom is a big achievement. But it isn’t the purpose of life. If that was the case, Mr. Ambani would not show up for work. Shah Rukh Khan would stay at home and not dance anymore. Steve Jobs won’t be working hard to make a better iPhone, as he sold Pixar for billions of dollars already. Why do they do it? What makes them come to work everyday? They do it because it makes them happy. They do it because it makes them feel alive Just getting better from current levels feels good. If you study hard, you can improve your rank. If you make an effort to interact with people, you will do better in interviews. If you practice, your cricket will get better. You may also know that you cannot become Tendulkar, yet. But you can get to the next level. Striving for that next level is important.
Nature designed with a random set of genes and circumstances in which we were born. To be happy, we have to accept it and make the most of nature’s design. Are you? Goals will help you do that. I must add, don’t just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balancedmeans ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order.
There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.
You must have read some quotes – Life is a tough race, it is a marathon or whatever. No, from what I have seen so far, life is one of those races in nursery school, where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same with life, where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die.
One last thing about nurturing the spark – don’t take life seriously. One of my yoga teachers used to make students laugh during classes. One student asked him if these jokes would take away something from the yoga practice. The teacher said – don’t be serious, be sincere. This quote has defined my work ever since. Whether its my writing, my job, my relationships or any of my goals. I get thousands of opinions on my writing everyday. There is heaps of praise, there is intense criticism. If I take it all seriously, how will I write? Or rather, how will I live? Life is not to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? It’s ok, bunk a few classes, goof up a few interviews, fall in love. We are people, not programmed devices.
I’ve told you three things – reasonable goals, balance and not taking it too seriously that will nurture the spark. However, there are four storms in life that will threaten to completely put out the flame. These must be guarded against. These are disappointment, frustration, unfairness and loneliness of purpose.
Disappointment will come when your effort does not give you the expected return. If things don’t go as planned or if you face failure. Failure is extremely difficult to handle, but those that do come out stronger. What did this failure teach me? is the question you will need to ask. You will feel miserable. You will want to quit, like I wanted to when nine publishers rejected my first book. Some IITians kill themselves over low grades – how silly is that? But that is how much failure can hurt you. But it’s life. If challenges could always be overcome, they would cease to be a challenge. And remember – if you are failing at something, that means you are at your limit or potential. And that’s where you want to be.
Disappointment’ s cousin is  Frustration, the second storm.  Have you ever been frustrated? It happens when things are stuck. This is especially relevant in India. From traffic jams to getting that job you deserve, sometimes things take so long that you don’t know if you chose the right goal. After books, I set the goal of writing for Bollywood, as I thought they needed writers. I am called extremely lucky, but it took me five years to get close to  a release. Frustration saps excitement, and turns your initial energy into something negative, making you a bitter person. How did I deal with it? A realistic assessment of the time involved – movies take a long time to make even though they are watched quickly, seeking a certain enjoyment in the process rather than the end result – at least I was learning how to write scripts, having a side plan – I had my third book to write and even something as simple as pleasurable distractions in your life – friends, food, travel can help you overcome it. Remember, nothing is to be taken seriously. Frustration is a sign somewhere, you took it too seriously.
Unfairness – this is hardest to deal with, but unfortunately that is how our country works. People with connections, rich dads, beautiful faces, pedigree find it easier to make it – not just in Bollywood, but everywhere. And sometimes it is just plain luck. There are so few opportunities in India, so many stars need to be aligned for you to make it happen. Merit and hard work is not always linked to achievement in the short term, but the long term correlation is high, and ultimately things do work out. But realize, there will be some people luckier than you. In fact, to have an opportunity to go to college and understand this speech in English means you are pretty damm lucky by Indian standards. Let’s be grateful for what we have and get the strength to accept what we don’t. I have so much love from my readers that other writers cannot even imagine it. However, I don’t get literary praise. It’s ok. I don’t look like Aishwarya Rai, but I have two boys who I think are more beautiful than her. It’s ok. Don’t let unfairness kill your spark.
Finally, the last point that can kill your spark is Isolation. As you grow older you will realize you are unique. When you are little, all kids want Ice cream and Spiderman. As you grow older to college, you still are a lot like your friends. But ten years later and you realize you are unique. What you want, what you believe in, what makes you feel, may be different from even the people closest to you. This can create conflict as your goals may not match with others. And you may drop some of them. Basketball captains in college invariably stop playing basketball by the time they have their second child. They give up something that meant so much to them. They do it for their family. But in doing that, the spark dies. Never, ever make that compromise. Love yourself first, and then others.
There you go. I’ve told you the four thunderstorms – disappointment, frustration, unfairness and isolation. You cannot avoid them, as like the monsoon they will come into your life at regular intervals. You just need to keep the raincoat handy to not let the spark die.
I welcome you again to the most wonderful  years of your life. If someone gave me the choice to go back in time, I will surely choose college. But I also hope that ten years later as well, your eyes will shine the same way as they do today. That you will Keep the Spark alive, not only through college, but through the next 2,500 weekends. And I hope not just you, but my whole country will keep that spark alive, as we really need it now more than any moment in history. And there is something cool about saying – I come from the land of a billion sparks.
Thank You.
